| File | Who it’s for | Installs to |
|---|---|---|
WND-Terminal-Windows.msi | IT. Installs for everyone on the PC, silently if needed. | C:\Program Files\WND Terminal |
WND-Terminal-Windows-setup.exe | One person. No administrator rights needed. | That person’s own profile |
Download both from the downloads page of the WND customer portal. Each installer is tested on a clean Windows PC before it’s published.
Install for everyone with the MSI
Run the MSI, or install it silently from a command prompt run as administrator.
msiexec /i WND-Terminal-Windows.msi /qnThe MSI installs into C:\Program Files\WND Terminal, adds a Start menu shortcut for all users and shows up in Settings > Apps.
Deploy to many PCs
Intune, Configuration Manager and Group Policy software installation can all deploy the MSI as it is. There’s nothing to repackage. For the Intune steps, see Deploy WND Terminal with Intune.
Upgrade
A newer MSI replaces the older version in place. Deploy it the same way you deployed the first one.
Install for one person with setup.exe
Run WND-Terminal-Windows-setup.exe. It installs into the person’s own profile and adds WND Terminal to their Start menu. It doesn’t need administrator rights, so it suits a pilot user or someone trying it on their own PC.
Microsoft Edge WebView2
WND Terminal draws its window with Microsoft Edge WebView2. Windows 10 and Windows 11 already include it. On a PC without it, the installer adds it, and that needs internet access once.
Citrix and Azure Virtual Desktop
WND Terminal also runs on Citrix and Azure Virtual Desktop.
Files IT can place on the PC
Group Policy and Intune are the usual ways to manage WND Terminal. Without them, you can put two files on each PC. Make the folder writable by administrators only.
| File | Where it goes | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| License file | C:\ProgramData\WND Software\WND Terminal\ | Licenses the PC without any policy setting. |
policy.json | C:\ProgramData\WND Software\WND Terminal\policy.json | Sets the same rules as Group Policy. Group Policy wins if both exist. |
After you install
- License every PC. The easiest way is to paste your license key into the License key Group Policy setting. Without a license, WND Terminal opens but can’t connect. See Licenses.
- Set the rules people can’t change, such as required encryption and the list of mainframe connections. See Group Policy and the policy settings reference.
- Bring sessions across from your current emulator. See Import from PCOMM and Import from Reflection.
Uninstall
Open Settings > Apps > WND Terminal > Uninstall, or remove it silently with this command.
msiexec /x WND-Terminal-Windows.msi /qnUninstalling leaves each person’s settings in place, so a reinstall keeps them.
What stays on the PC
| What | Folder |
|---|---|
| Trusted certificates, usage log | %APPDATA%\com.wndsoftware.terminal |
| Saved connections, keyboard maps, display settings | %LOCALAPPDATA%\com.wndsoftware.terminal |
Delete both folders to remove everything.
